APPLICATION OF ACTIVATED CARBON

Impregnated Activated Carbon Surface impregnation chemically modifies activated carbon through a fine distribution of chemicals and metal particles on the internal surfaces of its pores. This greatly enhances the carbon’s adsorptive capacity through a synergism between the chemicals and the carbon. And provides a cost-effective way to remove impurities from gas streams which would otherwise not be possible.   Water treatment Because of its antimicrobial/antiseptic properties, silver-impregnated carbon is an effective adsorbent for purification in earth-bound domestic and other water systems.   Gas purification Impregnated activated carbon is used to treat flue gases in coal-fired generation plants and other air pollution control applications. Carbon can be specifically impregnated for removal of acid gases, ammonia and amines, aldehydes, radio-active iodine, mercury and inorganic gases such as arsine and phosphine. Carbon impregnated with metal-oxide targets inorganic gases in...

TYPES OF ACTIVATED CARBON

图片
Activated carbon is a very useful adsorbent. Due to their high surface area, pore structure, and high degree of surface reactivity, activated carbon can be used to purify, dechlorinate, deodorize and decolorize both liquid and vapor applications. Moreover, activated carbons are economical adsorbents for many industries such as water purification, food grade products, cosmetology, automotive applications, industrial gas purification, petroleum and precious metal recovery mainly for gold. The base materials for activated carbons are coconut shell, coal or wood.     TYPES OF ACTIVATED CARBON Coconut shell-based activated carbon The very large internal surface areas characterized by microporosity along with high hardness and low dust make these coconut shell carbons particularly attractive for water and critical air applications as well as point-of-use water filters and respirators Very high surface area characterized by a large proportion of micropores High hardness with low dust...

Coconut Shell Activated Carbon for Air Purification and Electric Power Industry

图片
Coconut Shell Activated Carbon for Air Purification and Electric Power Industry PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Coconut shell activated carbon  is a kind of activated carbon with better air filtration effect. The coconut shell activated carbon of Yihang brand used for air purification and electric power industry has high-efficiency air purification function. Yihang desulfurizated activated carbon has a very high H2S removal capacity. It can also be used for Garbage burning and Solvent recovery. Technical Principle Coconut shell   activated carbon  used for air purification has the function of combining physical adsorption and chemical decomposition to decompose harmful gases such as formaldehyde, ammonia, benzene, cigarettes, oil fume and various peculiar smells in the air, especially carcinogenic aromatic substances. Coconut shell activated carbon used for air purification has extremely strong adsorption capacity. It is a commonly used adsorbent, catalyst or catalyst carrier, a...

How do activated carbon filters work?

图片
How do activated carbon filters work? Activated carbon  filters, sometimes referred to as charcoal filters, contain small pieces of carbon in granular or lumpy form that have been treated to be very porous. The surface area of just 4 grams of activated carbon is equivalent to a soccer field (6,400 square meters). It is this enormous surface area that allows activated carbon filters to adsorb (and essentially remove) pollutants and other substances very effectively. As water flows through the activated carbon filter, chemicals adhere to the carbon, resulting in a purer water output. The effectiveness depends on the flow rate and temperature of the water. Therefore, most smaller activated carbon filters should be used with low pressure and cold water. In addition to surface area, activated carbon filters may have varying capacities in terms of the size of contaminants removed. One factor is the quality of activated carbon with coconut shells proven to have the best efficiency. Activa...

Here's the truth about activated charcoal

图片
After waking up from a night on the town, some people turn to activated charcoal drinks or pills to quell the ravages of a hangover. Others, worried about toxins and metals building up in their bodies, use activated charcoal to detoxify. Some even claim activated charcoal can make them lose weight and lower their cholesterol. Suddenly, the best thing for grilling seems to be the latest, most popular health fad. But is it okay to take an activated charcoal supplement every day? Well, technically speaking, yes. "The risks are minimal," Dr. Michael Lynch, medical director of the Pittsburgh Poison Center and assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, told us. "Overall, it's pretty safe."     Activated charcoal - which is certainly different from a briquette thrown on a grill - can cause some mild gastrointestinal upset, including diarrhea. Some people mix it with laxatives to avoid that. Otherwise,...

The Ways to Use Activated Charcoal for Health and Beauty Benefits

图片
Your backyard barbecue is probably the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word charcoal, but activated charcoal is actually quite different from what you use to cook your steak on a hot summer day. Considered a natural remedy for many ailments, activated charcoal is a great alternative to drugs or products that contain a lot of artificial ingredients. It can be made from a variety of sources, but activated charcoal,  usually from coconut shells , is ideal. When the material used to make it is heated to very high temperatures, its composition changes and is similar to charcoal, except that it is much more porous. Many people believe that activated charcoal is like a sponge that absorbs everything the body comes in contact with. After all, it is used when someone ingests a poison, so it makes sense. However, activated charcoal is more subtle in that it uses a negative charge to attract toxins. This process is called adsorption and is quite different from the process we ...

Waste Carbon Recovery for Environmental Sustainability

图片
Used granular (GAC) or extruded (EAC) activated carbon can be recycled through thermal activation, which involves treating the used carbon in a high temperature activation oven at 850°C or above. Recovery by thermal regeneration is only one of the steps in the complete service package. The recovery process consists of two main processes: 1) reactivation process and 2) tail gas treatment and energy recovery process.     The reactivation process itself can be subdivided into four steps. 1) Drying of used carbon The used carbon is fed into the furnace and heated from ambient temperature to 105 - 110°C. Water and some low boiling compounds are evaporated and released into the furnace atmosphere. As long as there is water in the pores,  the temperature of the carbon  remains between 105 and 110°C. 2) Desorption of low boiling point organics. As the carbon dries, the temperature increases further to about 450°C. During this temperature increase, various organic compounds a...
